… My view on the world

So the cold spell has passed, and it is getting warm again.
I am leaving tomorrow for a quick trip around Germany and Poland for the next 10 days.
I wont be able to meet everybody, but I am very much looking forward to reunite with those who I will meet.
I am also packing my things, as I am moving, dont know where, but I know when, as my contract expires by the end of this month, but I haven’t fixed another place for now…

But, most importantly, see you world tomorrow!

So, What happened between December 2010 and April 2012?

Lets start with Lódz.

I applied for Erasmus exchange to little known city in Poland, by the name of Lódz, which translates to “boat” in spring 2010. I choose the university for few reasons, interesting courses, which of course did not disappoint.

I gained valuable knowledge in EU law and deeper understanding on the topic and me thesis topic started evolving while there.

The city is historically very interesting, built on the former border of Russia and Prussia during the Polish partition, industrial complex founded on huge cotton industry and textiles. The city survived the 2nd WW much intact, but it never reached it former glory.

After living in the city for 7 months, I very much fell in love with the place, the charm of the buildings is under the dust and between the potholes. endless stretches of planned red bricked complexes.

Since my studies, I’ve gone once there for a visit, and I’m again in few weeks. I made many good friends there, and feel even somewhat home sick after I leave. Having home away from home is what Lódz is to me.

The picture above is from Juwenalia, students spring break before exams, I saw some bands which are big in Poland playing on huge stage, barbecued and in general had very pleasant time.

So, the point is, expect to see much more from Lódz, old and new!

Also, I’m getting guests from Lódz on Sunday, and I’m looking very much forward to meet them again.

First of all, let me introduce my niece. Another beautiful creation by my brother and his girlfriend.
She was born last week, and looks absolutely amazing. I have high hopes for her, and am very much looking forward to see her grow and develop in the years to come.

As those few souls that stumbled in here have probably noticed that not much has happened lately, well, for more than a year or so. The thing is that some russian, Viagra/porn selling criminals hacked destroyed the site. I couldn’t find any recent backup(there are two types of people in this world, those who have lost data, and those who will lose data). Also my camera was faulty for the last year, and still is somewhat, which is shitty, so I haven’t felt like taking pictures, but the urge is returning now…

But to sum up what has happened in the life of the Icelander lately is the following.
I’m finalizing my thesis, and decided to hand it in this autumn, September 5th precisely.
I was teaching European Law for first year students at the Faculty of Law, and I’m doing internship at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. So, life has been pretty busy lately.

I went to London last March, which was pretty nice, never stopped there before, but it was charming, crowded and expensive. I might go there again some other time though…

In one week, Ela, my old Erasmus buddy from Poland is coming here with her friend, which I’m absolutely thrilled about.

In three weeks, I’ll be doing my regular Euro trip, Poland and Germany this time, Berlin, Lódz, Warsaw, Katowice, Kraków, Frankfurt, Marburg and Berlin, in 10 days. I can’t wait, it will be so great to go back home for a while.

So, expect more of me, and happy summer!

Once again, my favourite duo. I took this picture sometime this autumn, I think early October. I’ve been busy lately at school, and taking care of next few months. In one month or so I’m heading to Warsaw and from there to India for one month. When I return I have one semester at University of Lodz waiting for me, so I’m sure my camera will follow me around during that period.

Ps. Indriði almost walks now, and Prins still barks.

Ok(not OK) is(was) small glacier in Iceland. At least I was taught in school that this was a glacier. Since then it has shrunk each year, and today this is what is left. Global warming or what else it could be, one thing is sure, glaciers are shrinking.

The lovely couple Erika and Anders. I met Erika in Iceland, and this summer I was lucky enough to meet her again. This time in Berlin, with her boyfriend. I really hope I’ll manage to drop by in Copenhagen really soon.

In 2008 I saw the last remains of Palast der republic, in 2009 I saw open ground. 2010 showed me green field and heart. I guess that Stadtschloss still has time to wait, but the heart will live on for a while.
